Ms. Nives Milinovic has been the Director of the Open Academy Step by Step since 2003. The Open Academy Step by Step is a non-governmental, in-service teacher training organization dedicated to improving the quality of education for all children. It has trained several thousand of preschool and primary school teachers in child-centered methods of teaching, in inclusive education, and in social justice topics. It has implemented projects in cooperation with kindergartens, schools, and national agencies, funded by local government, national and international donors. The Open Academy Step by Step also supports teachers, kindergartens and schools through mentoring and publishing of books, picture books and magazines.

Ms. Milinovic began her career as a high school math teacher. She was Director of the Higher Education Program at the Open Society Institute Croatia prior to joining the Open Academy Step by Step.
