ISSA Member in Azerbaijan Celebrates 5th Anniversary
Jan 2010
On 25 September 2009, the Center for Innovations in Education (CIE) marked its 5th Anniversary with a special celebration led by the CIE Board Chair David Drapper and Minister of Education Misir Mardanov. Special greetings on behalf of the OSI National Foundation in Azerbaijan, where the Step by Step Program and other educational programs implemented by CIE had their start, was delivered by OSI Executive Director Farda Asadov. CIE senior management staff and a core group of SbS and RWCT trainers were awarded medals and honorary certificates by the MoE in recognition of significant services for the national education system. In total, 14 people received awards.
A highlight of the celebration was a concert performed by children from inclusive schools. CIE has played a great role in introducing inclusive education to many schools throughout Azerbaijan, so this was especially meaningful.
CIE was pleased to share a video on the history and experience of the organization (please see the link http://cie.az/library/video.htm).
Another highlight of the celebration was the first public debate on education, conducted with participation of well known national experts on education. The topic debated was "To what extent Equal Access to Education" is ensured by newly adopted Education Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
More than 150 friends, colleagues, and partners participated in the event including teachers, school principals, and trainers, children and parents, representatives of NGOs and state agencies, Parliament and international organizations, as well as representatives of businesses.
