Daiga Zake wins Society Unity Prize of Latvia

ISSA is pleased to extend warm congratulations to Daiga Zake, Project Manager of the Centre for Education Initiatives (Latvia), who was awarded the Society Unity Prize in November 2008.
Since 2002, theSociety Integration Foundation of Latvia has awarded annual Society Unity Prizes to those organisations and people who have contributed to the development of a more humane and united society of Latvia. The Society Unity Prize has been awarded to well-known individuals and organisations for achievements in the integration of different nationalities that live in Latvia into Latvian society, as well as social integration or reduction of social exclusion.
This year, the Society Unity Prize complimented accomplishments not only in social integration, but also in tolerance, thus emphasizing tolerance and diversity issues in Latvia. Therefore, in 2008 the Society Unity Prizes were awarded on 13 November –International Day of Tolerance. Daiga Zake, Project Manager of the Centre for Education Initiatives (ISSA Member in Latvia) is one of the four individuals and organizations who were awarded the Society Unity Prize 2008.
The Latvian Minister of Education and Science Tatjana Koke, the Minister of Society Integration Oskars Kastens, representatives of Society Integration Fund, regional and municipal governments, international organizations and NGOs participated at the awarding celebration. The prizes were presented by the President of Latvia, Valdis Zatlers.
