The Social Protection Committee of the European Commission recently released a new report, Child Poverty and Well-Being in the EU: Current Status and Way Forward. The report documents the conclusions of a Task Force charged with investigating the reasons behind child poverty in member states in 2007. Using commonly agreed upon indicators, the report identifies the main factors affecting child poverty in each country of the EU, including the challenges of unemployment, insufficient support to families, and the working poor. The report reviews national monitoring and evaluation systems and offers 15 recommendations for better assessing and monitoring child poverty across the EU. ISSA members may find the report a useful resource in national policy discussions. For the full report, please visit http://ec.europa.eu/employment_social/publications/2008/ke3008251_en.pdf.
