We are thrilled to welcome IRODA to the ISSA network! This member organisation from Tajikistan wants to ensure that people with autism have access to quality services appropriate for their unique needs. IRODA aims to see children with autism treated with dignity and respect, as valued members of society. IRODA was established in 2011 and is currently the only center providing autism-specific services in Tajikistan.
They provide support for children and young people with autism between the ages of 2 and 18 years. In addition to providing direct service, IRODA works hard in the areas of advocacy, training, and public awareness campaigns.
IRODA's current work includes:
-raising awareness of autism and increase understanding of the needs of children with autism and their families among medical and educational professionals and the general public
-working in conjunction with the government and non-governmental organizations to provide appropriate services for children and adolescents with autism and intellectual disabilities (1,5-19 years old)
-providing training for parents and professionals on early intervention, family centred models, inclusion and autism
-lobbying and providing relevant information to legislators to improve the rights for those on the autism spectrum.
Prior to IRODA’s work there was very limited recognition of autism in Tajikistan and no specialist services or supports for children and their families.  Children with autism were not included in the education system and frequently also were not able to access generic disability services due to a lack of knowledge about autism amongst service providers.
 
To date IRODA has worked directly with 268 children and families.
