Children Are Our World
"Children Are Our World" colorfully illustrates
how Step by Step programs in Haiti, Kazakhstan
Latvia, Moldova, Mongolia and Ukraine are helping
prepare children to meet the complex challenges
of the 21st -Century. Emphasizing problem solving
and independent thinking skills, SbS carefully
transforms classrooms into dynamic centers of active
learning. With the child at the heart of its work,
the video illustrates how change at every level—from
the classroom, the family and community, to teacher
preparation and systemic reform—can be achieved.

School Success for Roma Children
Roma
(Gypsies) are the largest minority group in Central
and Eastern Europe (CEE). They live in great
poverty and suffer a wide range of human rights
abuses.
Most Roma children do not have access to quality
education and are subjected to racist practices
throughout the education system. The Step by
Step programs in CEE work to improve educational
opportunities
for Roma children by demonstrating that given
high quality education opportunities, the children
can
achieve school success on par with their peers.
These
four short films highlight some of the strategies
Step by Step uses in helping Roma students receive
a quality education: parent participation, professional
development for teachers on teaching skills and
anti-bias awareness, and the benefits of including
Roma teacher assistants in the classroom. The projects
shown in this video were implemented in Czech Republic
and Slovakia.
