Increasing accessibility to services to support all families with young children and especially vulnerable ones, is a pillar of inclusive and universal high quality early childhood education and care (ECEC). This is still a challenge in many contexts. During this half-day pre-conference workshop, we aim to present, explore and discuss some very promising practices that were successful in increasing accessibility and inclusiveness. We will focus on three pioneering approaches to work with families with young children, and especially those who may be marginalised: GIZ methodology, the ‘VVV- approach’ and TOY for Inclusion approach. These will be presented through the stories of three young children, one Dutch, one Hungarian and one Slovenian and the use of interactive exercises.

Date: June 17, 2019

Time: 9:00 – 16:00

Location: Leiden, Child Rights Home, Hooglandse kerkgracht 17

The focus of this workshop is on how we can develop a curriculum that has the child as an original and individual person at its centre. Thinking about a child who is the protagonist of his or her process of education necessarily leads to a transformation of the idea of curriculum. We will share learning and exchange of note-worthy practices in the field of children’s inclusion inside a general framework of an open curriculum that takes into account and gives value to every and each individual as a different person. The ultimate goal is to support child development and well-being, and the affirmation of children’s rights.
