United Aid for Azerbaijan Empowers Women Entrepreneurs to Open Inclusive Preschools
Mektebim (My School, in English) is a women-led, child-centered, community-based, inclusive preschool business model from Azerbaijan designed by ISSA Member United Aid for Azerbaijan (UAFA). The Mektebim program provides high-quality early childhood education and care training packages under its brand name. Through the program, UAFA aims to create inclusive preschool education opportunities for all children aged two through six years.
Twenty-four preschools currently implement the program in several cities and regions in Azerbaijan, including Baku, Sumgayit, Absheron, Gandja, Haciqabul, Lankaran, Shirvan, Zaqatala, and Neftchala. UAFA has plans to increase this number in the coming years.
The program empowers women entrepreneurs to manage these inclusive preschool services through a social business model and supports women entrepreneurs through capacity-building and awareness-raising activities.
