Mission

De SLOEP vzw is an independent and pluralistic organization. De SLOEP is an open house for parents with young children, families in all sorts of diversity, who are welcome to participate and work together to find answers to their questions, their worries and share their story. De SLOEP welcomes all families and targets especially vulnerable, excluded and deprived families with young children in the region Ghent North-East.
Together with the parents we search an answer to a wide variety of questions that they consider valuable in their lives; in that way we aim at strengthening their position as a parent, neighbor, local citizen and world-citizen.
In De SLOEP you can find a consultation office and a prenatal service. Together with a doctor and a nurse from ‘Child and Family’, we offer advice and support concerning health, development, nutrition, care and safety for the young child, from prenatal age till school-age and beyond.
The ‘Inloopteam’ in De SLOEP shares and exchanges parenting-skills and this on an individual basis and in parentgroups. Raising children in De SLOEP is considered a natural and positive process in which parents, children, caretakers and the society engage themselves on a basis of equality and mutual respect.
In cooperation with the city of Ghent De SLOEP develops a health-promotion-project in which accessibility, education and emancipation are main issues.
Human rights, the fight against poverty, emancipation, diversity and intercultural competences form the binding lines throughout the daily practice of De SLOEP. These also are the central foci in the building of our network, lobbywork and project-development in De SLOEP.
De SLOEP, with its wide variety of activities and services in an open house with threshold zero, is a warm house/home of trust for everyone that enters our door. Parents meet other parents, volunteers meet professionals, families meet families and create both professional support and socialized care, that focuses on strengths and qualities. Parents, children and families become part of a stronger and strengthening community in the city of Ghent, and therefore in the world.
