Following the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, NGOs around Europe had to act swiftly to respond to the needs of families with young children fleeing Ukraine. While the necessary infrastructure was set up quickly, the early childhood development (ECD) workforce was not adequately prepared to support children who have been through traumatic experiences. For Ukrainian children living in Bulgaria, their fear, anxiety, anger, sadness, and grief are compounded by being away from their homes, schools, relatives, and peers, adjusting to a new country, and uncertainty about their future.

An international workshop and meeting on the segregated education of Roma children will be hosted in Budapest January 25th- 26th. The event will include discussion about the impact of segregation in schools and facilitate the exchange of practices between those working for the prevention of segregated education.

On November 20-21, ISSA members Sardes (the Netherlands) and the Neohumanist Education European Network (Romania) organised a Peer Learning Activity in Utrecht about the role of yoga and meditation techniques in young children’s development of Self-Regulation. The starting point is 'The Little Captain', developed by Sardes as a professional development package that helps preschool teachers to stimulate children’s Executive Function (EF) and Self-Regulation (SR).

Latvian member “Center for Educational Initiatives” has launched a new initiative - in cooperation with the Jekabpils Municipality - to strengthen and educate parents. They aim for a more active participation in processes, at local and national level, that are important for families with children. Center for Education Initiative sets up workshops for parents, followed up by electronical information sheets.
