Innovative Approaches to Supporting Young Children and Families in Vulnerable Situations

Creating inclusive and sustainable practices is essential for ensuring that young children and families in vulnerable situations receive the support they need. At the Kosova Education Center (KEC), we have been dedicated to fostering inclusive education and advocating for children's rights since 2003. Our vision is to build an effective and all-inclusive education system that contributes to sustainable economic and social development by preparing citizens to become lifelong learners and active participants in democratic life.

Promoting Human Rights and Social Inclusion

Since its beginning, KEC has played a crucial role in championing children's rights and working to prevent abuse. Through awareness campaigns, workshops, and training sessions, we educate various stakeholders about child rights and protection. One of our primary goals is to establish child-friendly environments in schools and communities, ensuring safe and inclusive education that prioritizes children's well-being and minimizes abuse risks.

In line with its vision, KEC through different projects, supports community-based and school-based learning centers across Kosovo, aiming to assist Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptian children by providing homework help, facilitating school-family mediation, and offering community-based pre-school services.

Through advocacy initiatives by the Kosova Roma Ashkali and Egyptians Early Years Network (KRAEEYN), we have contributed to advancing legal frameworks and policies at both national and local levels.

Innovative Methodologies for Parental and Community Engagement

One of our innovative approaches is the 'Your Story' methodology, which empowers parents to share their experiences, fostering trust, belonging, and active involvement in their children's education. Community engagement remains at the core of our efforts, as we continue to organize meetings with parents to share guidance on best practices in supporting children’s learning and development. These initiatives not only build strong community bonds but also empower families to actively participate in their children’s growth.

Innovative Learning through Play

Recognizing the fundamental role of play in children's cognitive, social, and emotional development, we have established Toy Libraries in some partner schools and community centers. These spaces offer educational toys and materials, making learning interactive and enjoyable. The Toy Libraries encourage creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration while also strengthening parent-child relationships by extending learning into the home.

Ensuring Equity and Inclusion in Education

KEC is committed to promoting equal access to education for all children, particularly those from marginalized and vulnerable backgrounds. To create a supportive and fair learning environment, we focus on:

  • Providing personalized support to children facing learning barriers.
  • Teachers training in inclusive and culturally responsive methodologies.
  • Engaging communities to foster a sense of belonging and shared responsibility.

Our commitment has resulted in more inclusive classrooms where every child is valued, regardless of their circumstances, and has the opportunity to succeed academically.
