Embracing Diversity Training Programs
Embracing Diversity Training programs promote the values of anti-discrimination, anti-bias, and respect for diversity in classrooms, in communities, at the workplace, and in society. Embracing Diversity guides participants through a process of personal transformation, which helps them to become agents of change towards inclusive and social cohesive societies.
The program focuses on empowering adults working with diverse groups to recognize their own attitudes, beliefs and behaviors in relation to marginalized groups, to raise their awareness and knowledge about issues of discrimination, and to help them take responsibility and build the capacity for change on personal, professional and institutional levels.
Personal transformation, professional results
The program works on cognitive and psychological levels, as well as on the level of concrete action: increasing knowledge, acquiring new terminology, developing individual and group self-esteem, changing attitudes and designing concrete mobilizing activities.
A course designed specifically for educators is also available, supporting educators become aware of and actively promote and celebrate in their daily practice the respect for diversity among children and their families.
Goal
The goal of ISSA’s work in Embracing Diversity is to empower adults working with diverse groups and ages to recognize their own attitudes, beliefs and behaviors in relation to marginalized groups so that diversity among individuals is respected, valued and celebrated.
At the end of the training participants will have acquired:
• additional awareness and knowledge about issues of discrimination
• new tools to build the capacity for change on personal, professional and institutional levels
• the capacity to develop action plans and to implement actions to change a specific context
Within the Embracing Diversity framework, ISSA provides custom-made trainings that meet the needs of each organization. Participants will receive a training program relevant to their day-to-day work.
For whom?
In the past, we have successfully adapted the course for teachers, parents, school administrators, local education authorities, school or community mediators, medical staff, social workers, police officers, local government officials, journalists, and other community members who interact with diverse populations.
In addition, the training may benefit international organizations or agencies working with grantees or partners in the areas of education, community building, human rights, and anti-discrimination. Institutions are welcome to invite ISSA to run the training for their staff or grantees.
