NEWS - Crnik in Macedonia is Something to Talk About!

'Common goal helps strengthen community.'

Crnik is a small village in Macedonia, relatively close to the Bulgarian border: at equal distance from both Skopje and Sofia. It has a multiethnic population made-up of Turks, Roma and Macedonians. All of them have good relationships and easy communications.

NGO KHAM sits and works in Delcevo, but also has an office in the village of Crnik. From its early beginnings, it has invested in social structures. They connect with the Crnik villagers to help make life better. During one of the projects, ‘A Good Start’ Kindergarten was opened in the village. Additionally, their health program opened an immunization point.

This week, the ‘Move your Finger’ initiative took place. It was time for maintenance on the Kindergarten ground. The director invited all villagers to come down to help improve the front garden of the Kindergarten. And they did!

On Saturday, the work began first on the fencing: it was painted freshly again. Mothers brought plants and rearranged the garden, making beautiful borders and a path of stones to walk over. They worked all through Sunday, moving heaps of sand and placing seesaws and other playground equipment for children to play on.

The maintenance day was fantastic, because it showed what combined effort can accomplish. All people helped to improve the playground. All working on a common goal: a better playground, better quality of playing and learning. Bound to create a better future: parents, the mayor, all civil organizations – giving the young generations proof of growth and mutual positivity.

About 70 people from Crnik came to help. Other support came from NGO KHAM employees, from the Municipality of Pencevo, from Public Utility Company ‘Solidarnost’, the local health center, primary school ‘Vanco Kitanov,’ Kindergarten ‘7 September’  and children from the village.
